Update on the Tentative Agreement

When the bargaining committee and University reached a tentative agreement last Saturday, the agreement consisted of a series of documents, emails, and bullet points, each referencing one another. The University's team consolidated all of these into a single, tentative agreement document, and sent this document to the bargaining committee earlier this week.

Before voting on whether or not this tentative agreement becomes our next union contract, it is critical that all part-time faculty have the opportunity to read the text of the final tentative agreement itself, not just the highlights.

The bargaining committee and union reps are working as fast as possible to check the University's team’s consolidated tentative agreement document to ensure that it accurately reflects what the bargaining committee and University tentatively agreed to. As soon as this is done, the bargaining committee will share the finalized tentative agreement text and put it to a vote.

The bargaining committee unanimously endorses the tentative agreement and hopes to bring it to a vote as soon as possible.

What are the possible outcomes of the vote?

Part-time faculty, not elected leaders, are the highest authority in our union.

All part-time faculty union members currently working or who have worked in the last two years can vote on the tentative agreement. Voting will be by online ballot.

If a majority vote “yes,” the agreement will become our next union contract. The contract’s start date would backdate to November 14th, 2022, and it would run through August 31st, 2027, though several elements, such as pay raises, would be retroactive to the start of the fall 2022 semester. (See the highlights for more information.)

If a majority vote “no,” then the bargaining committee will return to the negotiations table and continue to bargain with the University.

More details to come as soon as the tentative agreement text is consolidated.
