Contract Proposal, Article 29
Medical & Dental Benefits
This is one of the most important proposals that the committee has made. Bargaining committee members’ overarching goals with this proposal increasing the reliability of the university’s health insurance, expanding access, and bringing down costs. The committee proposes:
VERY IMPORTANT: Not allowing the university to kick Mannes faculty (and families) who teach primarily or only private lessons off the university health insurance plans.
Requiring the university to cover 98% of the healthcare, dental, and vision premiums for individuals and 96% of the premiums for families.
Ensuring that part-time faculty teaching one course or the equivalent in teaching activities at The New School have access to university-provided health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance.
Providing part-time faculty with access to the POS (similar to PPO) plan and Value Plan w/ HSA to which full-time faculty and staff have access.
Preventing the university from hiking out-of-pocket costs.
Maintaining comparable healthcare coverage from year-to-year, using the medical and dental plans from 2020 as the benchmark.
Requiring the university to provide the union and faculty with advanced notice of any changes to the healthcare plans.
In the event that the university switches health insurance providers, mandating that it make its best effort to keep all current providers in-network in the new plan.
