Currently, the university sets aside $90,000 a year to compensate up to 5 union reps for their duties, which include answering part-time faculty members’ questions, assisting part-time faculty in disciplinary meetings, and filing and arguing union grievances on behalf of part-time faculty.
The bargaining committee proposes expanding this fund to $500,000 a year and removing the 5-rep cap to ensure that the elected union unit chair can hire more union reps to assist her. This will allow the rep team to more swiftly and effectively address the issues which part-time faculty bring to them.
